Cardiac Surgery, one of the most demanding specialties both in terms of infrastructure and in term of surgical skills and experience, is one of the fields given significant importance and great attention.
The Department of Cardiac Surgery accommodates:
- A fully equipped and specialized Polyvalent Intensive Care Unit.
- The most modern, within the Greek territory, technological support in terms of diagnostic means, such as Hemodynamics Laboratory, CT- and MRI-scan with the capacity to deliver images of the heart-coronary vessels-aorta and peripheral vessels, transesophageal ultrasonography, Echo stress test, specialized radioisotope imaging techniques.
- The most technologically advanced operating rooms, well-equipped with intraoperative, transesophageal, dual-probe Echo and specialized image projection station delivered from the CT-scan, MRI-scan and coronary angiography.
- Cardiology beds equipped with the latest technology telemetry monitoring system which monitors the progress of cardiac surgery patients on a 24-hour basis.
Metropolitan General’s cardiac surgery team comprise highly trained physicians who received training in the largest centers abroad and gained multi-year experience in the management of cardiac surgery cases. The conduct cardiac surgeries, of any severity, to treat congenital (adult) and acquired cardiac diseases, such as aneurysms, valves (mechanical and biological-human/homografts), bypass (off and on pump), etc., deploying the most modern techniques. Indicatively, the surgeons perform coronary artery bypass surgery with arterial grafts (arterial reperfusion).
