The Department of Thoracic Surgery is one of the pioneering Departments at Metropolitan General. It conducts surgical procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, in the lungs, mediastinum, chest walls and esophagus.
Ever since its establishment, major pulmonary surgical procedures have been performed, i.e. lobectomies and pneumonectomies. To date, the Department of Thoracic Surgery continues to break ground through video-assisted minimally invasive thoracic procedures, performed via very small skin incisions.
The method serves to execute diagnostic procedures in the lungs and pleural cavity, as well as major therapeutic pneumonectomies, hyperhidrosis surgeries and atrial fibrillation management procedures. With thoracoscopic procedures, postoperative pain is eliminated, the aesthetic outcome is excellent and postoperative hospital stay is minimized.
