The Ultrasound Laboratory accommodates three high-resolution ultrasound systems to perform ALL types of ultrasound tests and triplex.
The following tests are carried out:
- Upper and lower abdominal U/S (lesser pelvis)
- Transvaginal U/S
- Prostate transrectal U/S
- Thyroid, cervix, breast, scrotum U/S
- Musculoskeletal system U/S
- Vascular U/S (vascular triplex)
- Contrast-enhanced U/S of solid organs
- Erectile dysfunction triplex U/S
The Ultrasound Laboratory offers the ability of complementary elastography, which is an important ancillary technique in the differential diagnosis of benign-malignant tumors, primarily in breast diseases and secondarily in other organs, such as thyroid nodules investigation.
One more innovative application of Metropolitan General’s GE Logic E9, the leading U/S system, is fusion imaging, which allows the fusion-correspondence of U/S images in real time, with the respective CT/MRI and PET/CT images. In this way, the accurate localization and better U/S imaging of pathological findings is achieved. The application is combined with the use of contrast agents assisting in the optimal detection of focal liver lesions.
Moreover, under U/S guidance, organ paracenteses and biopsies are conducted, such as breast, thyroid and prostate, collected fluid aspiration, hook placement, intra-articular injections (e.g. in the glenohumeral and hip joints) for the performance of MRI- and/or CT-scans, as well as therapeutic injections in the joints and soft tissues.
