Metropolitan General houses a top-notch Bronchoscopic Lab equipped with cutting-edge medical equipment to exclusively carry out Interventional Pulmonology procedures.
In particular, the endoscopy tower, a pioneering medical device in the field of Interventional Pulmonology, has high-definition video endoscopes that apply newer imaging techniques such as Narrow Band Imaging (NBI).
The endoscopy tower incorporates the most sophisticated processors (EVIS EXERA III/CV-190plus & EVIS EUS EU-ME2) dedicated to delivering brightness for excellent imaging and high-definition ultrasound images with all modern techniques for the identification and verification of displayed structures. Our lab bronchoscopes include the latest technology BF1TH1100 bronchoscope, the peripheral ultrasound device (radial EBUS) MAJ 1720, and the central ultrasound device (CP-EBUS) BF-UC190F.
The diagnostic techniques we perform include:
- Flexible bronchoscopy
It is an endoscopic examination performed with a flexible bronchoscope, a high-tech thin tube with flexible optical fibers and light fibers that transmit the image from inside the bronchi to the doctor's screen. At Μetropolitan General's Bronchoscopic Lab we perform bronchoscopies through obtaining: biopsies (bronchial, transbronchial), bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), bronchial secretions for cultures, specimens necessary for molecular testing, and cytology. - Central endobronchial ultrasound (CP-EBUS) to puncture mediastinal and portal lymph nodes as well as central lesions.
- Bronchoscopy with peripheral ultrasound (radial probe/EBUS) to approach peripheral lesions.
- Bronchoscopy to detect early malformations or malignancies under Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) guidance.
- Bronchoscopic ablation (argon plasma coagulation, diathermy) to treat central bronchi and achieve successful hemostasis.
