The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Metropolitan General engages in both Oral Surgery which is usually performed under local anesthesia, and Maxillofacial Surgery which requires general anesthesia.
A small spectrum includes surgical extraction of impacted teeth, intraosseous cysts, small buccal musoca tumors, dento-alveoral abscesses.
Dental implants, on a substrate of partial or complete lack of teeth, constitute a significant part showing increasing demand over the last years with very good results.
Traumatology holds a significant part in the large spectrum covered by the Department. The treatment of traumas and fractures in the facial skull due to road accidents or falls is performed with modern fixing methods and materials, through intraoral access when jaws are also compromised, with the least possible impact on the skin of the face when other areas are also involved (craniofacial complex, orbital fractures).
Other procedures of this medical specialty pertain to the treatment of benign and malignant oral cavity tumors (soft tissue, jaw bones or salivary glands), as well as surgical restoration of facial malformations, the so-called orthognathic surgeries, such as prognathism, asymmetry, micrognathism).
