The CT-scan Laboratory accommodates two multislice ct-scans for the performance of ALL modern examinations:
- Traditional CT-scans
- CT-angiographies (brain - carotid arteries – aorta – upper & lower extremities)
- CT-coronary angiography
- CT-colonography (virtual colonoscopy)
- CT-enterography-enteroclysis
- Dental CT-scans
- CT-pyelography
- Various special CT-scans (with special protocols, such as signature, etc), appropriate for preoperative orthopedic measurements
It should be noted that for the conduction of CT-scans, low radiation dose protocols are followed, as in a chest CT-scan.
At the same time, the CT-scan Laboratory, apart from the diagnostic tests, interventional procedures are also conducted – all CT-guided –, such as parecenteses, biopsies, fluid collection drainage, ablation, fiducial markers placement, etc
CT-coronary angiography is a true revolution in the field of primary healthcare. In a pain-free and bloodless manner, it allows the assessment of cardiac coronary vessels and, in term of diagnosis, it has been proven as equal to traditional coronary angiography via catheterization, in the detection of hemodynamically significant stenoses requiring treatment. The test is recommended for patients with: a) atypical precordial pain -without distinct pathology findings in other cardiac exams, b) low to moderate risk for coronary disease, based on the rest lab tests, and patient and family history, c) a history of by-pass, for the functional evaluation of the graft, and d) (in specific cases) a history of stents placement for the evaluation of their patency.
Coronary calcium scoring assesses the amount of calcium concentrated on the wall of coronary arteries, as it is associated with the risk of developing a heart disease. This examination is carried out either alone or as part of the CT-coronary angiography.
CT-colonography (virtual colonoscopy) allows the diagnosis of colon cancer in a pain-free and non interventional manner, and with high sensitivity. Its results are comparable to those of virtual colonoscopy. The American Society of Clinical Oncology has included the test in the list of the screening tests recommended for the early diagnosis of colon cancer. Indeed, people over the age of 50 are advised to undergo the examination every 5 years, as an alternative to virtual colonoscopy or barium enema. During CT-coronary angiography, the upper and lower abdomen cavity organs are also investigated as in an abdominal CT-scan.
CT-pyelography has, to a great extent, replaced traditional pyelography as it provides more information to all diagnostic issues originating in the urinary tract system, such as colics, hematuria, characterization of renal masses.
CT-enteroclysis and enterography are utilized in the diagnosis of small intestine inflammations, such as ileum, inflammatory disease (Crohn disease, celiac disease).
CT-angiography is performed on every vessel of the body, in a painless and bloodless manner, lasts a few seconds, and is considered equal to traditional angiography (with catheterization) in the diagnosis of critical stenosis.
