The Central Laboratories at Metropolitan General conduct all diagnostic tests of the biomedical field: medical biochemistry, clinical microbiology, laboratory hematology, laboratory immunology, biological fluids and discharges analysis, hormone and genetic testing. For the tests, all latest methods and techniques are applied, including molecular ones.
The Central Laboratories operate on a 24-hour basis to cover both inpatient and outpatient needs. It is staffed by excellently trained and highly experienced personnel: medical biopathologists, biologists, medical laboratory technologists, secretaries. The Laboratories are equipped with ultramodern analyzers and use reagents of the highest quality to ensure qualitative and high precision results.
The Central Laboratories participate in national and foreign quality control programs of international standards. Internal quality controls are conducted according to international standards and legislation. External quality controls are performed with the participation of the following Departments:
- Biochemistry at ESEAP (National System of External Quality Assessment)
- Microbiology, within the framework of a program of the School of Medicine of the University of Athens
- Immunology and Hormonology at Biodevice (Biogroup Medical System)
- Hematology, within the framework of a program of the Hellenic Society of Haematology and Biodevice
- Blood Donation Center at Α-Med (Alpha MEDICAL)
The Central Laboratories are certified and operate according to the international quality standards, ISO 9001:2008 and TEMOS. At the same time, they collaborate with centers of reference and research groups in Greece and abroad.
Blood donation center
It collaborates with “A. Fleming” Hospital for the supply of the necessary blood products and its derivatives. Blood units, platelets units and fresh frozen plasma units supplied to Metropolitan General, undergo strict tests through the latest laboratorial methods. The sufficiency of blood and its derivatives for inpatients is the overriding priority of the Hospital.
