The Department of Interventional Radiology and peripheral vasculature at Metropolitan General is equipped with the latest technology medical equipment and staffed by highly specialized Interventional Radiologists to apply the most modern minimally invasive therapeutic procedures.
Interventional Radiology uses minimally invasive therapeutic techniques which safely restore any disease, minimizing the patient’s natural injury with the assistance of x-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs and digital angiography. These procedures reduce operation time and hospital stay, and most of the times are performed without general anesthesia.
Metropolitan General’s Department of Interventional Radiology and peripheral vasculature has the capacity to solve challenging diagnostic problems and successfully manage multiple conditions in the liver-biliary-kidneys, infertility-fibromyomas, liver cancer, hypertension, osteoporotic and non osteoporotic fractures, vascular diseases (aneurysms, stenosis, vascular obstructions, etc). In addition, the Department can offer immediate assessment and treatment to emergencies on a 24-hour basis, such as hemorrhages, traumatic or acute aneurysms.
Great emphasis is placed on the Department’s collaboration with the Department of Medical Imaging in the treatment of oncologic conditions, applying the most modern, minimally invasive techniques and methods.
Metropolitan General is one of the few centers in Greece that have the state-of-the-art digital Angiography-Neuroradiology system Philips Azurion 7, Biplane, with innovative technology to minimize radiation and top image quality. This angiographic system, with two lamps for imaging in two planes (biplane), opens new horizons in interventional radiology, offering the possibility for new and innovative interventions and treatments, with the greatest possible safety for the patient.
