What is Orthobiologics?
Orthobiologics is a new Medicine domain, aiming to activate and enhance the body's inherent ability to repair and regenerate its tissues and organs. The most up-to-date orthobiologics treatments include treatment with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and treatment with Stem Cells. These methods are safe, non-surgical, biological treatments for degenerative and traumatic conditions of the musculoskeletal system in a natural way. Currently, these treatments are successfully applied in a multitude of Orthopedics conditions, including:
- Degenerative osteoarthritis of low and intermediate severity
- Partial rupture of anterior or posterior knee cruciate ligament
- Partial tear of menisci
- Aseptic necrosis of femoral head on the hip, femoral condyles of the knee, the ankle etc.
- Bone deficits
- Partial rupture of tendons (e.g. Achilles tendon, patellar tendon, supraspinatus tendon etc.)
- Muscle strains
The following operations are indicatively performed in the Minimally Invasive Orthopedics Surgery - Sports Medicine and Orthobiologics Clinic:
- Shoulder, knee and ankle arthroscopy, using small, 5 mm incisions to quickly restore tears of menisci, cruciate ligament ruptures, shoulder rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, cartilage lesions of the knee, ankle etc.
- Minimally invasive total hip/knee arthroplasty, replacement of the joint using a small incision, minimization of blood transfusion needs, immediate patient mobilization, hospitalization for up to 3 days.
- Minimally invasive (percutaneous technique) corrective osteotomies to restore hallux valgus (bunions).
- Microsurgery operations for hands (carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, De Quervain tenosynovitis, Dupuytren disease, tears of extensor and flexor tendons of the hand) and shoulders (ulnar neuritis, lateral and medial epicondylitis).
