Welcome to 2nd Robotic Surgery and Surgical Oncology department at Metropolitan General.

During the last couple of decades advances in biotechnology allowed the development and application of minimally invasive techniques in surgery. Our team embraced those techniques with great enthusiasm and after receiving the proper clinical and lap hands on training we successfully incorporated them in our daily practice (laparoscopic surgery, use of Doppler, Laser and other).

The evolution of DaVinci robotic surgical system by Intuitive Surgical ® in 1995 was the mile stone biotechnology achievement of the twentieth century. Designed to enhance the skills of the Surgeon and to safely expand the boundaries of minimal invasive surgery, DaVinci surgical robot became our valuable electronic companion in our effort to achieve more and more difficult surgical tasks.

Our team considers the da Vinci robotic system a valuable tool “in the hands” of experienced surgeons. In 2009 Dr Eleni Karafoka after receiving the necessary training and became a certified DaVinci console surgeon by Intuitive Surgical ®. Since then the team utilizes robotic-assisted surgery in treating all kind of benign and malignant diseases of gastrointestinal tract, as well as in abdominal wall and pelvic floor reconstructive procedures.

Furthermore, in order to offer our patient the best possible chance of early return to their daily routine, we follow and apply the International Enhanced Recovery after Surgery Protocols (EAS-Protocols) to all of our patients.

Our primary goal is to offer medical and surgical services of the highest quality and toward that direction we dedicate time and effort.
