1ST UROLOGY CLINIC

Metropolitan General’s 1st Urology Clinic provides diagnosis and treatment for all urinary tract and reproductive system diseases.

Namely:

  • It conducts all transurethral and laparoscopic procedures in the urinary tract.
  • Painlessly manages stones in the kidneys, ureters, bladder, at the special Lithotripsy Unit of Metropolitan General.
  • Treats benign prostate hyperplasia with all methods available: typical open transvesical prostatectomy, transurethral prostatectomy with electrodiathermy, transurethral prostatectomy with the TURIS technique, as well as laser prostatectomy.

Laser prostatectomy, or Greenlight Laser method, has the following comparable results: it simplifies the classic surgery method, delivers rapid symptom relief, fast recovery, immediate and long-term results, and can be applied on patients receiving anti-coagulants or severe cardiac patients.

Robotic Surgery

Robotic Surgery

The 1st Urology Clinic applies robotic surgery for the management of urological conditions. In theory, all laparoscopically treated urological conditions can be robotically managed. However, the conditions primarily managed with robotic surgery, delivering maximum results for the patient are: prostate cancer, bladder cancer, benign prostate and bladder diseases (large prostatic adenoma, vesical diverticulum, cystovesical fistula), benign diseases of the renal pelvis and ureter (pyeloplasty, uretero-cysto-neostomy), benign and malignant kidney diseases (renal cancer, large renal cysts). Other procedures that can also be robotically performed are: robotic assisted varicocele repair and robotic-assisted inguinal hernia repair.

Moreover, the 1st Urology Clinic runs an Incontinence Unit and an Andrology Office.

Incontinence Unit

Incontinence Unit

The Incontinence Unit provides complete diagnostic examination and radical treatment of male and female incontinence. Following the initial diagnostic examination to determine the type of incontinence, several treatment options are offered:

  • Simple medical advice on lifestyle adjustments (diet, weight control, special exercises for the strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles, etc)
  • Special medication (anticholinergics)
  • Minimally invasive and incision-free surgical treatments -performed either transvaginally or perineally- which require short hospital stay and entail relatively fast recovery and rehabilitation.
Andrology Office

Andrology Office

The Office is staffed specially trained Urologists-Andrologists with many years of experience in the management of male infertility and sexual dysfunction conditions.

Male Infertility Office

Male Infertility Office

The most effective methods for the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility are deployed (varicocele, prostatitis, seminal or ejaculatory ducts obstruction, etc).

Male infertility diagnosis is commonly delivered with the first semen analysis, and then via other, more specialized tests performed at Metropolitan General, such as urine and semen culture, hormonal, biochemical and immunological semen and blood measurements, as well as specialized imaging tests, such as penile vessels Triplex.

The results of all the examinations are assessed by the Urologist-Andrologist and determine the final diagnosis of the infertility cause, along with the treatment regimen to be applied.

Treatment

Treatment

  • Medication
  • Microsurgery for all surgically treatable male infertility problems (varicocele, therapeutic biopsy for tissue cryopreservation, sperm ducts or epididymal obstruction).
Male Sexual Dysfunction Office

Male Sexual Dysfunction Office

The Office provides diagnosis and treatment for sexual dysfunction cases (ejaculation disorders, loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunctions, such as poor erection or inability to maintain erection during intercourse, anatomical problems/penile curvature, etc). Initially, the cause of dysfunction is identified, which may arise from either psychogenic or organic causes or a combination of them, and then the applicable treatment is recommended.

The diagnosis of the cause

The diagnosis of the cause

It is performed by obtaining a detailed medical history, clinical examination for the diagnosis of anatomical problems or inflammations, and specialized blood and imaging tests. With the specialized imaging tests we can determine the nature of the disease, i.e. whether it is neurogenic, endocrine (e.g. hyperprolactinemia, low testosterone) or vascular (e.g. hypertension), whether it is a renal, hepatic or thyroid disorder, latent diabetes mellitus or dyslipidemia. At the same time, Metropolitan General can conduct penile vessels Triplexes to diagnose the presence of a vascular (arterial or venous) erectile dysfunction.

Treatment

Treatment

There are several treatment options which deliver very good results in the majority of cases, and their success rate is almost 95%.

  • Medication or combined with special psychotherapy, where needed. To date, a wide range of drugs bearing different clinical profiles are available and provide men with the opportunity to choose what best suits them.
  • Vacuum erection devices (penis pumps): they constitute an alternative for patients who do not wish to receive medication and have occasional sexual intercourses.
  • Penile curvature surgical treatment: penile curvatures (bendings) are either congenital (present at birth) or acquired, i.e. they develop at some point during a man’s lifetime (Peyronie’s disease). Their treatment at Metropolitan General is performed with specialized plastic surgery techniques and overnight hospital stay.
  • Special penile injection therapy: it refers to the application of special pharmaceutical preparations, following strict personalized process, occasionally directly onto the cavernous bodies of the penis. While adhering to this therapy regimen, the patient can be trained to self-administer the injection, just before intercourse.
  • Penile prostheses: it is the ideal solution when all prior treatment methods have failed. The implantation is surgically performed, with overnight hospital stay, and the prostheses come with a manufacturer’s lifetime warranty in case of mechanical failure.
