CLINICAL & RESEARCH INTERESTS
- My clinical work is directly and exclusively linked with my service at military hospitals, hospitals of the National Health System and university hospital institutions.
- Between November 1997 and July 1998 I served during my military Air Force service as General Surgery Resident at the First Surgical Clinic of 251 General Air Force Hospital under the directorship of Wing Commander G. Kassaras.
- Between November 1998 and November 1999 I served as Agricultural Physician in the Mykonos Health Care Center.
- Then, between February 2000 and July 2002 I was employed as Resident General Surgeon in the First Pre-Training Surgical Clinic of Athens University at “Hippokrateion” Hospital under the directorship of Prof. G. Androulakis.
- Between January 2003 and October 2003 (27.1.2003 – 10.10.2003) I was employed as Resident Vascular Surgeon in the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Clinic in Nuremberg (Klinik für Gefässchirurgie - Vasculäre und Endovasculäre Chirurgie, Klinikum Nürnberg, Germany) under the directorship of Dieter Raithel, Vascular Surgery Professor of the University of Erlangen, Nürnberg, Germany.
- Between April 2005 and August 2008 I pursued and completed my Residency in Vascular Surgery as Resident Vascular Surgery Physician in the Vascular Surgery Department of the First Surgery Clinic of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens at the “Laikon” Hospital under the directorship of Surgery Professor Ilias Bastounis.

At this Clinic –one of the most significant Vascular Surgery medical centers in Germany– I acquired further experience in the entire range of modern vascular surgery focusing on carotid surgical repair, endovascular and conventional surgical treatment of thoracic and abdominal aorta aneurysms, the treatment of splitting aorta aneurysms and the hybrid methods of dealing with thoraco-abdominal aneurysms. As a Specialized Vascular Surgeon I am capable of performing independently any kind of open vascular surgery (carotid artery stenoses, abdominal aorta aneurysms, peripheral by-passes, kidney patient surgeries –shunts) or endovascular operations (placement of endoluminal aortic stents, carotid, iliac and peripheral artery angioplasty, and stent placement).
- During my studies and further education in the University Clinic of the Technical University of Munich I had the opportunity to actively participate in the Interventional Radiology Department under the tutelage of Director Professor Dr. H. Berger in the performance of a wide spectrum of endovascular operations for peripheral obstructive arterial disease, severe aorto-iliac axis stenosis repairs, kidney and visceral artery ischemia and incidents of brain ischemia.
- I further participated in the special scientific training program of Private Academy of the German Society of Vascular Surgery entitled “Endovascular Therapy” and the Special Seminar of the Private Academy of the German Society of Vascular Surgery for Medical Further Education of the Federated State of Bavaria with the topic “Endovascular treatment of carotid stenosis”.
