Metropolitan General’s Department of Ophthalmology offers innovative eye treatments through minimal, painless, effective, and fast (5-10 min) intervention procedures, using the latest generation lasers such as:

  • The Diode Laser, the only laser that uses the ground-breaking Micropulse technology, which prevents tissue damage in contrast to conventional thermal lasers. The Diode Laser is the most modern therapeutic option for bloodless treatment of more serious forms of glaucoma.
  • The SLT Laser (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty), a high-precision laser that is used to treat open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is a cutting-edge laser that is non-thermal, non-invasive, and capable of lowering glaucoma-related intraocular pressure. It is just as effective as pharmaceutical treatment but without the side effects and application issues associated with long-term eye drop therapy.
  • The YAG Laser is used for dedicated eye procedures such capsulotomy, iridotomy, and vitreolysis.

For the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the macula and diseases of the fundus of the eye in general, the Department of Ophthalmology houses a digital, latest generation angiography system, called OCT - Angio, that uses optical coherence tomography technology. This device produces images with a high degree of resolution and diagnostic accuracy. Additionally, it enables detailed recording of glaucomatous lesions in order to facilitate timely and effective disease management. The Department's diagnostic quiver boasts top-notch equipment, Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM) ophthalmic ultrasound, digital fluoroscopy-guided angiography, corneal topography, electrophysiology, and the endothelial cell microscope.

Our Department uses modern surgical techniques for complex procedures involving the eye and eye socket. The Stellaris PC Next Generation surgical system, which is used for retina-vitreous, cataracts, and glaucoma surgical treatments, is one of the most recent components of our cutting-edge medical technology.
