“Newer data in hip and knee osteoarthritis management” is the title of the speech to be delivered on Monday 14 March at 18.30 in the Events Hall of the Cultural Center “Mayor V. Gkatsopoulos”, on Dionysou and Myrsinis street junction in Kifissia.

The speech is organized by the Municipality of Kifissia and Metropolitan General.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of the joints and mostly affects burden joints (hip and knee). It constitutes one of the most common diseases, as estimated reveal that every family has at least one member suffering from the disease, the incidence of which significantly increases with age. As described earlier, the most common types of osteoarthritis is knee and hip osteoarthritis.

Treating osteoarthritis can be conservative or surgical. Conservative treatment comprises medication, intra-articular drug injections (hyaluronic acid, cortisone) and physiotherapy. Surgical treatment includes a range of surgical procedures, with total arthroplasty being the treatment option. Arthroplasty varies according to the composition of the implant and the technique, such as minimally invasive arthroplasty, resurfacing arthroplasty, computer-aided prostheses placement, etc.
