A comprehensive support system for the oncology patient
At Metropolitan General, comprehensive and specialized services are provided for the investigation, diagnosis, therapeutic, and supportive management of neoplasms. The most advanced therapies are applied in a personalized manner in accordance with international guidelines, tailored to each patient’s genetic and overall health profile, as well as to the histopathological and molecular characteristics of their disease at every stage.
Types of treatments
Management includes the most up-to-date therapeutic protocols for the administration of chemotherapy regimens, hormone therapies, immunotherapies, biological therapies, targeted therapies, as well as locoregional therapies such as chemoembolization, tumor ablation using radiofrequency (RF ablation) or microwaves (microwave ablation), tumor cryoablation, or combinations thereof.
Short-stay hospitalization
Treatments that do not require prolonged hospitalization are carried out in One Day Clinic (O.D.C), in a comfortable and friendly environment, under the supervision of the treating physicians and the highly trained nursing staff specialized in the needs of oncology patients. In certain patient cases, hospitalization is required for the administration of chemotherapy as well as high-dose chemotherapy with autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (high-dose chemotherapy with autologous stem cell rescue), under special conditions, in high-safety isolation rooms.
Interdisciplinary collaboration
An integrated approach is achieved through the close collaboration of the Oncology Clinics, Hematologic Oncology Clinics, Surgical Oncology Clinics, and the Breast Center of Metropolitan General. At the same time, support is provided by the Central Laboratories, the Pathology Laboratory, Medical Imaging, the Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology Clinics, the Nuclear Medicine Laboratory, as well as by the modern radiotherapy units of the hospitals of the Hellenic Healthcare Group.
Highly qualified medical staff
The medical team of Metropolitan General has excellent scientific training and long-standing experience, having managed many patients with oncology diseases. This, combined with continuous medical education, ensures the most up-to-date medical care. Their participation in international oncology events and conferences, with presentations, announcements, or publications, as well as the conduct of research programs either as participating investigators or principal investigators, continuously enhances scientific and clinical excellence for the benefit of the patient.
The management of oncological cases is supervised by the Clinic’s Oncology Board, where physicians from all involved specialties collaborate and jointly decide, aiming at a comprehensive approach and the most effective treatment of patients, always based on the latest international developments and data.
Pilot therapeutic protocols
Innovative pilot therapeutic protocols are secured and implemented:
- either in the form of timely access to internationally approved therapies that have not yet been incorporated into routine clinical practice in Greece (open access programs, Named Patient Programs)
- or in the form of international clinical trials (Phase I, II, III and IV), whose organization, structure, and monitoring are aligned with the relevant European Directive and Greek legislation
Thus, patients with neoplasms are given the opportunity to have direct access to the most up-to-date modern therapies, as well as options among promising and innovative therapeutic approaches.
