The 2nd Oncology Clinic of Metropolitan General is staffed by Medical Oncologists with excellent scientific training and extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of all solid tumors. It is supported by specialized nursing staff in the provision of care for oncology patients. Our aim is the comprehensive care of our patients.
Diagnosis
The Clinic utilizes all modern diagnostic methods for the diagnosis of solid tumors, including imaging methods (ultrasound, CT and MRI scans, PET CT with FDG, choline, gallium and PSMA), CT-guided biopsies, endoscopies and stent placements, analysis of the patient’s molecular profile using modern molecular methods, as well as genetic profile analysis and assessment of hereditary risk in specialized laboratories.
Types of treatments
Our Clinic applies modern, innovative therapies, personalized for each patient according to the histopathological and molecular characteristics of their disease for greater effectiveness. All treatments are in accordance with international guidelines.
The Clinic can manage all solid tumor types such as lung, breast, colorectal, gastric, esophageal, pancreatic, biliary tract, testicular, gynecological cancers, head and neck, kidney, bladder, etc.
All modern therapies are used, such as chemotherapy, hormone therapy, targeted biological therapies, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, radiosurgery (CyberKnife), chemoembolization, radioembolization, RFA (Radiofrequency Ablation), etc., in collaboration with other specialized Clinics of Metropolitan General.
Chemotherapy and targeted molecular therapies are administered in the One Day Clinic (ODC) by specialized staff. If longer treatment is required, it is carried out in the Clinic ’s inpatient wards. Continuous support is provided to our patients regarding management of side effects, either on an outpatient basis or within the Clinic if admission is required. There is collaboration with physicians of other specialties within the framework of the Oncology Board for the best holistic management and treatment of our patients.
In our Clinic, research therapeutic protocols are implemented to provide our patients with access to new innovative therapies and novel drugs.
The Director of the Clinic, Dr. Pavlos Papakostas, is a member of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group, which is the largest research group in the field of Oncology in Greece.
There is also collaboration with specialized centers abroad for exceptional patient cases requiring consultation or management.
