The Metropolitan General's 5th Urology Clinic treats the whole spectrum of modern urology: treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, robotic prostate cancer surgery, diagnosis and treatment of all types of urological cancer, urinary lithiasis (kidney stones). It also treats all andrological conditions such as male infertility and erection problems, and all penile diseases such as Peyronie’s disease and urethral disorders. Its physicians are well trained and use the latest technology provided by our clinic.
In more detail:
Benign prostatic hyperplasia/TURIS: For the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, we use the most modern method available, i.e. TURIS (transurethral resection in saline), which achieves transurethral prostatectomy with minimal hospital stay and high efficacy.
Robotic Surgery: Robotic prostatectomy is the most modern surgical method of treating prostate cancer due to short hospital stay, extremely low intraoperative blood loss, and excellent outcomes for urinary incontinence and preservation of erectile function. These are due to the capabilities of the DaVinci robotic system, which allows excellent surgical field visibility and precise and subtle handling. Therefore, our patients present high success rates in achieving the maximum desired outcome from the prostate resection surgery, which comprises the optimal oncological outcome, urinary continence and good erectile function.
Andrology: Our clinic has a high level of expertise in Andrology as its Chief is the Chair of ANDRYPOS (Department of Infertility & Andrology) of the Hellenic Urological Association. Therefore, all andrological problems are treated effectively whether these are penile diseases and erectile dysfunction or male infertility issues. More specifically, we successfully apply the techniques of penile prosthesis (implants), treatment of Peyronie’s disease with or without grafting, and urethral stents through endoscopic access or grafting. In the field of male infertility, we apply all modern pharmaceutical therapies as well as the most advanced forms of microscopic azoospermia treatment (microTESE), achieving a 30% sperm count in men previously considered azoospermic, a result that is equivalent to international results. We also use modern microsurgical techniques that are internationally considered “gold standard” for treating varicocele, one of the most common causes of male infertility.
Lithiasis: We treat all kidney, ureteral and bladder stone cases using minimal invasive/endoscopic methods and laser equipment. With the use of modern flexible uretero-nephroscopes, we achieve lithiasis treatment throughout the urinary tract, even with hospital discharge within a few hours, while larger stones are treated percutaneously with short-term hospital stay.
Oncology: All urological cancers (kidney, urinary bladder, etc.) are surgically treated with minimal invasive methods (e.g. robotic surgery, endoscopic techniques, cryoablation), surgical removal of single renal tumors or radical surgeries such as radical cystectomy and orthotopic neobladder formation that practically allows normal daily activities without the need for urostomy.
