Urinalysis & Urine Culture
Materials you will need:
- A sterile urine collection container from a pharmacy
- Mild soap
- A clean towel
Collection procedure:
- Timing: Collect the first morning urine
- Cleaning: Wash the area with mild soap and gently pat dry with a clean towel
- Collection: Collect a midstream urine sample. Half a container is sufficient
- Delivery: Bring the sample to the laboratory within 2 hours or keep it refrigerated at 4°C for up to 6 hours
24-Hour Urine Collection
Materials you will need:
- A marked urine collection container from a pharmacy
Collection procedure:
- Start: Discard the first morning urine in the toilet
- Collection: From that point onwards, collect all urine for the next 24 hours
- End: Complete the collection the following day at the same time you started
- Storage: Keep the container refrigerated throughout the entire collection period
