The Clinic was established to provide advanced services in the field of endourology and the management of urinary stone disease. It is a modern, innovative clinic staffed by highly trained medical and nursing personnel. The Director, attending physicians, and associates are experienced and distinguished specialists, each with individual areas of expertise, working collaboratively to cover the full spectrum of modern urology.
In daily clinical practice, utilizing the advanced technological equipment of Metropolitan General, state-of-the-art endourological and minimally invasive urological procedures are performed. Ureteral and renal endoscopic surgery using high-definition fibers and flexible endoscopes has revolutionized the treatment of urinary stone disease. Furthermore, the use of laser technology in combination with next-generation extracorporeal lithotripters has led to the abandonment of older surgical techniques for stone management.
We fully recognize the need for patients to understand both the nature of their condition and the available treatment options. For this reason, our entire team is actively involved, providing clear information with patience and dedication, using visual aids (informational graphics, procedural videos, questionnaires, etc.) to support patients and their families.
The Clinic provides the following services:
- Endourology
- Minimally invasive management of urolithiasis
- Microsurgical treatment of andrological conditions
- Hematuria evaluation unit
- Voiding function assessment unit
- Male sexual dysfunction unit
Endourology
Endourology is a subspecialty of urology that focuses on the application of minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment of urinary tract diseases, such as urolithiasis, tumors of the urinary tract, and obstructive uropathy. It represents a rapidly evolving and highly specialized field requiring advanced knowledge and expertise in modern technologies.
Endourologists perform procedures using specialized endoscopic instruments through the natural anatomical pathways of the body (urethra, urinary bladder, ureters, kidneys), thereby avoiding surgical incisions.
The main advantages of endourology and minimally invasive urological surgery include:
- Minimization of blood loss
- Reduction of postoperative pain
- Shorter hospital stay
- Rapid return to daily activities
Endourological procedures
- Urethrocystoscopy
- Photodynamic cystoscopy
- Transurethral treatment of urethral strictures
- Transurethral bladder neck incision (TUR-bladder neck)
- Transurethral resection of the prostate (TUR-P)
- Transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TUR-BT)
- Transurethral management of ureteral tumors and strictures
- Transurethral placement of ureteral stents
- Ureteroscopy
- Nephroscopy
- Placement of percutaneous nephrostomy
Minimally invasive management of urolithiasis
Until 30–35 years ago, the treatment of urolithiasis was difficult, highly invasive, and often associated with significant complications. Today, thanks to technological advances, kidney, ureteral, and bladder stones are effectively treated using minimally invasive techniques.
- Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)
- Rigid or flexible ureterorenolithotripsy (URS/RIRS)
- Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL)
- Endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery (ECIRS)
The choice of method depends on the location and size of the stone, as well as the severity of the condition it causes in the urinary tract or the overall health of the patient (infection, pain, obstruction, renal failure, etc.).
Microsurgical management of male reproductive system disorders
Expertise and experience in the use of the surgical microscope provide significantly improved outcomes in procedures for disorders of the male reproductive system (varicocele, azoospermia, etc.).
Microsurgical repair is considered the treatment of choice by the international medical community for varicocele, while advancements in sperm retrieval techniques for azoospermic men include microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE).
Hematuria Evaluation Unit
Hematuria is a common symptom, occurring in 2–3% of the adult population and in up to 6% of patients evaluated by urologists. Notably, even a single episode of hematuria, without recurrence, may indicate a serious underlying condition. Therefore, a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation is required.
Voiding Function Assessment Unit
Bladder function can provide valuable information not only about the condition of the urinary tract but also about overall health.
Voiding function assessment includes:
- Medical history
- Clinical examination
- Ultrasound evaluation
- Uroflowmetry
- Comprehensive urodynamic testing
Male Sexual Dysfunction Unit
The International Society for Sexual Medicine emphasizes that “individuals with sexual dysfunction have the right to appropriate medical diagnosis and treatment.”
Erectile dysfunction should not be regarded solely as a quality-of-life issue, but also as a potential risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
