“Back to the life you want.”
The Physiotherapy Department of Metropolitan General aims at the fastest and safest reintegration of patients into all their daily and athletic activities. It constitutes one of the largest physiotherapy centers in the country, with modern equipment, as well as one of the few certified centers for Human Tecar therapy and Ergon Technique.
It is staffed by fully trained physiotherapists, each of whom specializes in specific techniques and types of treatment. They have the skills, knowledge, and the will to help the patient reach, through the therapeutic procedures, the destination, which is full rehabilitation and improvement of their quality of life, and not temporary relief of their symptoms.
The conditions that are approached therapeutically concern the rehabilitation of an injury, surgery, inflammation, or a disease. Any of these conditions may affect the function of the joints, the nerves, the muscles, the ligaments, the bones, as well as the blood or the lymphatic circulation.
Physiotherapy Units
The individual Physiotherapy Units that operate are:
- Specialized Unit for the Treatment, Prevention and Counseling of Spinal Disorders (low back pain, discopathies, neck pain, thoracic pain, kyphosis, scoliosis, pain due to muscle spasms, incorrect ergonomics in the workplace, muscle asymmetries, insufficient control, and stabilization of the trunk, etc.)
- Specialized Unit of Sports Injuries, both for professional and amateur athletes (muscle strains, tendinitis/tendinopathies, after shoulder arthroscopies, meniscus injuries, anterior/posterior cruciate ligament ruptures, Achilles tendon ruptures, etc.)
- Specialized Unit of Shoulder Injuries and Disorders concerning both conservative and postoperative rehabilitation (fractures, ruptures, and inflammations of tendons/ligaments of the shoulder, rotator cuff injuries, supraspinatus ruptures, labrum injuries, stabilization of the shoulder after dislocations, etc.)
- Specialized Unit of Hip Injuries, after surgeries and/or injuries of the hip (fractures, total arthroplasty, muscle strains, etc.)
- Specialized Unit of Lymphedema for the rehabilitation of congenital and acquired lymphedema after mastectomy, hysterectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, etc.
- Specialized Unit for Headache Treatment for the management of headaches and migraines of various etiologies

Ergometry Center
At the Ergometry Center, all scientifically certified ergometric measurements are carried out using state-of-the-art equipment (isokinetic dynamometer, gas analyzers for ergospirometric evaluation, electrocardiograph, photocell system, flexibility meters, pedobarographic, force platform, body fat analyzers, basal metabolism measurement with a special hood, dynamometers, ergometric bicycle, blood lactate and glucose analyzers, etc.).
The results of the measurements are analyzed in comparison with special norms. The bibliographic reference is communicated to the examinees, certifying the scientific documentation of the measurements and the professional consistency of the center. For the procedures that are followed before each ergometric test, those undergoing the measurements are informed accordingly about the set of physiological tests.
Gait Analysis and Custom Insoles Unit
An important service is the evaluation and treatment of problems that are due to dysfunction caused by disease, injury, and/or anatomical structure of the foot.
It has also been proven through scientific studies that a meticulously designed anatomical orthotic insole improves the quality of life of people who strain their body due to profession or sports.
This service includes:
- the evaluation of the foot, posture, and the way the body moves
- the measurement with a special pedobarographic of the way they stand and walk
- the construction of special individualized orthotic insoles, which is carried out in the specialized laboratory of the center, equipped with latest-generation technology
Therapeutic Massage Unit
Massage is the oldest and most timeless therapy to date. It is a widely recognized treatment that is popular and favored by most people. Also, only physiotherapists and aestheticians have the professional right to apply this specific therapeutic technique in Greece.
Massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, using a variety of techniques. It relieves tension and stress, reduces muscle spasms, improves muscle elasticity, increases the range of motion of the joints, reduces blood pressure, and improves blood and lymph circulation.
Finally, individuals with chronic conditions such as chronic migraine, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and depression may benefit.
The types of massage that one can undergo are:
- Deep Tissue Massage for relaxation of deep tissues
- Sports massage
- Lymphatic massage
- Anti-Stress massage for improvement of blood and lymph circulation, reduction of muscle spasms, restoration of nervous system function and overall stimulation of the body and mental state
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy includes:
- the facilitation or enhancement of the natural ability of the body to heal itself, when the process of trauma or disease has disorganized the system of the organism

What the 1st Session Includes
During the first session, with no financial charge, a detailed history of the problem is taken, imaging and laboratory tests that may have been performed are studied (MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, X-ray, electromyogram, blood/urine tests, etc.), the opinion of the attending physician is taken into account with whom communication also follows, and an overall evaluation of your body (local and regional) is carried out.
The area of pain will be examined, considering other possible dysfunctions and compensations from areas that may be related and contribute to the problem and cause pain, weakness, stiffness, imbalance.
Then, you are informed in detail about the proposed therapeutic protocol, and you decide on the therapeutic course you wish to follow.
