24/7 Emergency Coverage
At the Department of Interventional Neuroradiology of Metropolitan General, the most advanced minimally invasive methods are applied for the treatment of a wide range of vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord (Central Nervous System), which until recently could not be treated or required open surgical procedures (craniotomy). These techniques minimize complications and offer excellent long-term outcomes.
The Department’s Interventional Neuroradiologists successfully apply advanced endovascular techniques (embolization) for the treatment of vascular conditions such as cerebral aneurysms and vascular malformations.
Neurointerventional Procedures
- Embolization of cerebral aneurysms
- Angioplasty and stent placement in the carotid and intracranial vessels
- Embolization of vascular malformations of the brain, face, neck, and spinal cord
- Management of acute stroke with pharmacological thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, which represent the most effective treatment approaches
- Preoperative embolization of tumors of the brain, neck, and spine to reduce intraoperative blood loss during surgical removal
- Embolization for the management of epistaxis
- Embolization / sclerotherapy of vascular malformations throughout the body
- Vertebroplasty / kyphoplasty for spinal fractures
Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Advanced Equipment
The Department of Interventional Neuroradiology at Metropolitan General is staffed by specialized physicians, nursing personnel, and technologists, and is equipped with advanced medical technology.
It provides immediate evaluation and treatment on a 24-hour basis, in collaboration with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, and Intensive Care Unit physicians of the Clinic.
Metropolitan General is among the few centers in Greece equipped with the advanced Philips Azurion 7 Biplane angiography-neuroradiology system, featuring innovative technology for radiation dose reduction and superior image quality.
This dual-plane (biplane) imaging system enables advanced and innovative interventional procedures and treatments, ensuring the highest level of patient safety. View its key advantages and clinical benefits here.
