Gastroenterology Clinic of Interventional Endoscopy

The Gastroenterology Clinic of Interventional Endoscopy is staffed by highly trained and experienced gastroenterologists with extensive expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Their training in renowned centers in Greece and abroad ensures a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to the full spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases, in both elective and emergency settings.

Utilizing the state-of-the-art technology of Metropolitan General and the latest-generation endoscopes, the clinic performs the following procedures:

Diagnostic and Interventional Endoscopic Procedures

  • Gastroscopy
  • Colonoscopy
  • Sigmoidoscopy
  • Capsule endoscopy for the evaluation of small bowel diseases
  • ERCP (biliary imaging, sphincterotomy, lithotripsy and removal of bile duct stones, placement of stents in the bile and pancreatic ducts, cytology sampling for the diagnosis of biliary and pancreatic malignancies, bile duct dilation, etc.)
  • Endoscopic hemostasis of acute gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Endoscopic polypectomy and removal of gastrointestinal polyps
  • Endoscopic treatment of esophageal varices (sclerotherapy and band ligation)
  • Dilation of gastrointestinal strictures (benign or malignant)
  • Removal of foreign bodies (foreign body ingestion, food bolus impaction, etc.)
  • Endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s esophagus
  • Endoscopic placement of gastrostomy in patients unable to receive oral feeding or conversion of gastrostomy to jejunostomy
  • Cauterization of bleeding lesions using argon plasma coagulation (APC), such as angiodysplasias and radiation-induced gastrointestinal lesions
  • Treatment of esophageal achalasia with botulinum toxin injection or balloon dilation
  • Management of obesity with intragastric balloon placement
  • Endoscopic management of postoperative complications (leaks following bariatric surgery, anastomotic strictures, gastric band erosion into the stomach, etc.)
  • Treatment of anorectal condylomas
