The surgical procedures conducted at the 1st Endoscopic Surgery Clinic of Metropolitan General include:
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
- Laparoscopic diaphragmatic hernia repair (Nissen Fundoplication)
- Laparoscopic colectomy in cases of bowel cancer
Laparoscopic procedures offer the advantage of minimum pain, minimum trauma and fast recovery.
The endoscopic actions of the Clinic include diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, i.e. not with general anesthesia but with light sedation, through a flexible endoscopy instrument inserted orally. Apart from gastroscopies, the following specialized procedures are also performed:
- Endoscopic dilation of esophageal strictures
- Endoscopic achalasia treatment
- Placement of stents as bridging of esophageal strictures (cancer)
- In the stomach and duodenum, gastrointestinal bleeding is controlled via the infusion of hemostatic solutions or placement of occlusion clips
- On the 2nd part of the duodenum and via endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), bile duct stones are removed or, in cases of jaundice, stents are placed
- In the large intestine, safe removal of polyps is achieved with snares
