The 1st Vascular Surgery Clinic of Metropolitan General provides specialized care for patients with diseases covering the entire spectrum of angiology and vascular surgery.
Stroke Prevention
All parameters that may lead to temporary or permanent damage to brain tissue are carefully evaluated, including:
- atherosclerosis and lipid disorders
- carotid artery stenosis
- aneurysms
- hypertension
- diabetes
- cardiac arrhythmias
Aneurysms - Intermittent Claudication
The localized formation of atherosclerotic plaques can obstruct blood vessels, resulting in reduced blood flow. As a consequence, patients may be able to walk only a limited distance before experiencing pain in the muscles of the buttocks, thighs or calves due to reduced blood supply.
This condition is known as intermittent claudication and requires prompt evaluation by a vascular surgeon.
Aneurysms, which are dilations of blood vessels caused by weakening of the vessel wall, may be detected:
- incidentally during imaging examinations
- after embolization of a clot to a peripheral vessel causing acute occlusion
- following rupture
Early surgical repair can preserve blood supply to the lower limb and may even be life-saving if performed before rupture occurs.
Varicose Veins - Thrombophlebitis
Varicose veins may cause minimal symptoms for long periods of time, which often leads patients not to seek medical treatment.
However, they may present with three serious complications:
- thrombosis
- venous ulcers
- bleeding
These complications may lead to significant problems if conservative treatment and preventive measures have not been effective.
The following preventive measures are recommended:
- walking and regular physical exercise
- weight loss
- smoking cessation
- medical therapy
When varicose veins are caused by valvular insufficiency, the most effective treatment is often surgical removal of the saphenous vein.
Varicose veins are often confused with spider veins, where the problem is primarily cosmetic. In such cases, treatment may involve several methods such as injections, laser therapy, or radiofrequency treatment.
Lymphedema
The appropriate treatment is applied, with manual lymphatic drainage or pharmacological treatment.
