The thesis was carried out under the auspices of the 2nd Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Athens in collaboration with the Institute of Dynamics and Structures of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering of the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens.
• Holder of the Postgraduate Degree with the grade "Excellent" (3.11.2009) of the Postgraduate Program "Metabolic Bone Diseases" organized by the Medical School of the University of Athens with the Laboratory of Research of the Musculoskeletal System Diseases "Th. Garofalidis".
• P.H.T.L.S. (Pre-Hospital-Trauma-Life-Support). After passing the exams (12.09.2002), he obtained the certified diploma P.H.T.L.S. held at 251 Air Force General Hospital (10.09.2002-12.09.2002).

RESEARCH PROGRAMMES

• "Biomechanical study of the effect of radial osteotomy (lower extremity) in cases of pseudoarthrosis fractures of the scaphoid bone of the wrist using finite element analysis", (Supervisor: Associate Professor G. Papachristou) Doctoral thesis in which I received the grade "Excellent". The thesis was carried out under the auspices of the 2nd Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Athens in collaboration with the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds and with the collaboration of the Institute of Dynamics and Structures of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering of the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens.
• "Treatment of Interbody Fractures with Intramedullary Nailing". Research collaboration between the 2nd Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Athens (Supervisor: Associate Professor N. Efstathopoulos) and the School of Civil Engineering of the University of Athens to study the biomechanical advantages and disadvantages of using the proximal or distal peripheral screw of the nail. The results of the study were published in Injury, Journal of Orthopaedics, 10th EFORT Congress, Vienna, Austria, July 3-6, 2009, 65th Panhellenic Orthopaedic Congress, October 7-10, 2009 and 20th Pancyprian Orthopaedic Congress, Paphos, 6-8/11/2009.
• Novel osteophilic 99mTc and 186/188Re radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and/or treatment of bone inflammation. Experimental study in mice. Research collaboration between the 2nd Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Athens (Supervisor: Associate Professor N. Efstathopoulos) and the Laboratory of Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Radioisotopes - Radiodiagnostic Products and the Laboratory of Structural Studies of Biomolecules and Drugs by NMR, Institute of Biology, National Center of Scientific Research for Molecular Biology "Demokritos". The objective of the proposed project is to develop new prototype complexes of the radioactive isotopes 99mTc and 186/188Re with suitable chemically modified derivatives of the nitrogenous bisphosphonic acid of alendronate (ALN) for bone scintigraphic imaging (99mTc) by Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and for the treatment of pain and inflammation (186/188Re), respectively.
• A comparative study of the safety and efficacy of rivaroxaban versus tinzaparin in the prevention of thromboembolic events in patients undergoing surgery for coxofemoral/pelvic and hip fracture. The Phase IIb study is being conducted at the Academic Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds University, Leeds, UK.
• A blinded, prospective, randomized, multicenter study of the efficacy of subacromial Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) infusion versus steroid infusion in the conservative management of subacromial impingement syndrome. The research study (Phase IIb) is being conducted at shoulder surgery centers in the UK under the auspices of James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, UK.
